Our Next DIY Badge

From DIY.org
Meteorologists seek to understand weather, but they do more than deliver the forecast. They collect data from all around to study the forces at work in the Earth's atmosphere. They tirelessly track temperature, pressure, moisture, and movement, on a quest to predict the unpredictable.
The little voyagers are very excited to learn about the weather! And lucky for us, last week  we actually got some real weather to observe. Lucky, because we live in Southern California!

We will be making weather related instruments and learning to keep weather records. We will be learning about clouds and wind and rain. The little voyagers are even going to try to PREDICT the weather, just like you see on TV!

                                                                 Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Mama Voyager took the little voyagers to the library to pick up some weather books. Here are a few we will be using -  two for reference and  two for fun!
From Amazon:
Introduces basic weather terms and concepts.
From Amazon:
Filled with information about each element of our changing weather, including what clouds tell us about the weather, why there are different seasons, what causes hurricanes and tornadoes, how to make a sundial, and more.

And for fun:
From Amazon:
The tiny town of Chewandswallow was very much like any other tiny town except for its weather which came three times a day, at breakfast lunch and dinner.
But it never rained rain and it never snowed snow and it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed things like mashed potatoes. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers.
Life for the townspeople was delicious until the weather took a turn for the worse. The food got larger and larger and so did the portions. Chewandswallow was plagued by damaging floods and storms of huge food. the town was a mess and the people feared for their lives.
Something had to be done, and in a hurry.
And finally, something to satisfy the little voyager's interest in Little House on the Prairie:
From Amazon:
Laura is delighted when a soft, thick snow falls in late spring in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. A late snow helps the trees make more sap for maple syrup, and maple syrup means sweet sugar cakes and sticky fingers for Laura! Doris Ettlinger's enchanting full-color illustrations, inspired by Garth Williams's artwork, perfectly capture Laura and her family in this My First Little House Book, adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big Woods.
Who knew weather could be so much fun?
